MISTREE has been featured in the August 2026 issue of Pro Landscaper USA, bringing the Suffolk-born architectural cooling installation to the attention of landscape architects, designers and developers across North America.
The feature marks an exciting step in MISTREE’s development as we begin introducing the product to the US market, where rising temperatures and increasingly frequent heatwaves are creating new challenges for the design and use of outdoor spaces.

Designing for a hotter climate
Outdoor thermal comfort is becoming an increasingly important consideration in landscape architecture and urban design.
Across the United States, cities are experiencing periods of extreme heat that can significantly affect how public spaces are used. Hard landscaping, buildings, paving and other urban materials can absorb and retain heat, creating environments that become uncomfortable during the hottest parts of the day.
Traditionally, designers have relied on a combination of shade, planting, water features and careful orientation to improve comfort. These remain important tools, but there is growing interest in additional climate-responsive solutions that can actively reduce the effects of heat within specific areas.
This is where evaporative cooling and MISTREE can play a role.
MISTREE has been developed around the principle of ultra-fine evaporative misting, creating a localised cooling microclimate within the immediate area of the installation. Rather than attempting to cool an entire building or outdoor environment like conventional air conditioning, the system focuses on improving comfort where people gather.
That makes the concept particularly relevant to public squares, civic spaces, hospitality developments, pedestrian areas and other outdoor destinations where creating comfortable places to pause and spend time is important.
More than an outdoor cooling system
What differentiates MISTREE is that cooling is only one part of the concept.
The installation has been designed as a piece of architectural infrastructure rather than simply a functional misting system. Standing at more than five metres tall and fabricated from marine-grade stainless steel, its sculptural form is intended to contribute to the identity of the space it occupies.
This distinction is particularly important when considering the needs of landscape architects and urban designers.
Infrastructure introduced to a public space needs to perform a practical function, but it can also influence how that space looks, feels and is remembered. MISTREE is designed to combine those considerations within a single installation.
During the day, the structure provides evaporative cooling. After sunset, its integrated DMX-controlled LED lighting system creates an entirely different experience. Colours, intensity, transitions and sequences can be programmed to suit the character of a project, with lighting configurations capable of being adapted for events, celebrations, seasonal displays and different times of day.
The result is an installation that can contribute to an outdoor environment both functionally and visually, rather than disappearing into the background as conventional infrastructure often does.
From Suffolk to the United States
Although the ambitions for MISTREE are international, its origins are firmly rooted in Suffolk, UK.
The project has developed through a collaboration between precision manufacturer Electronic Terminations Ltd, lighting engineer Tom Taylor, and designers Barron Gould Studio who were collaborators of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain
The team brought together design, engineering, manufacturing and lighting expertise to create an installation capable of combining practical environmental performance with a strong architectural identity.
The international ambition is to make MISTREE available for architectural projects in some of the world’s hottest regions, working with supply and installation partners to support projects outside the UK.
The feature in Pro Landscaper USA is therefore an important milestone as MISTREE begins to build relationships with the landscape architecture and design community in North America.
Looking ahead
The Pro Landscaper USA feature represents another step in MISTREE’s journey from a Suffolk-developed concept to an architectural product with international ambitions.
As we continue conversations with landscape architects, architects, developers, hospitality groups and public realm designers, we’re particularly interested in exploring how MISTREE could be integrated into different types of projects and climates.
From a single sculptural installation within a civic square to multiple trees forming a cooled and illuminated boulevard, the possibilities are deliberately broad. The aim is simple: to help create outdoor spaces that are cooler, more comfortable and more memorable, while making climate-responsive infrastructure an integral part of the design.
